Organisational transformation has become a constant reality for leaders across industries. Whether driven by digitalisation, restructuring, shifting workforce expectations, economic uncertainty or evolving business priorities, leaders are increasingly expected to guide people through change while maintaining engagement, performance and wellbeing.
Join Alex Martin, Client Director at SMU Executive Development and a Certified Mental Toughness Questionnaire (MTQ) Practitioner, for an insightful conversation on how the Mental Toughness framework can help leaders and organisations navigate transformation more effectively.
In this interactive discussion, Alex will share perspectives from his work with organisations and senior leaders, exploring how mental toughness influences the way individuals respond to challenge, uncertainty and change. Together, we will examine the critical role that resilience, confidence, adaptability and emotional regulation play in helping leaders remain effective during periods of organisational transition.
The conversation will explore questions such as:
-Why do some individuals embrace change while others struggle with it?
-How can leaders build resilience and positivity during organisational transformation?
-What behaviours and mindsets help teams remain engaged when navigating uncertainty?
-How can organisations strengthen their capacity to adapt and thrive amid ongoing disruption?
-How can the Mental Toughness framework be applied to support change readiness and leadership effectiveness?
Participants will gain practical insights into the psychological factors that influence how people experience change, as well as strategies for fostering resilience, agility and sustainable performance at both the individual and organisational levels.
Whether you are leading a transformation initiative, managing organisational change, or seeking to strengthen your own leadership capabilities, this session will offer valuable perspectives on leading with confidence and clarity in an increasingly ambiguous world.
What is Mental Toughness?
Mental Toughness is a personality trait that determines how effectively you perform under stress and pressure. Closely linked to character, resilience, grit, and perseverance. It is the foundation for thriving—not just surviving—in challenging environments. Developed through the pioneering work of Professor Peter Clough, Doug Strycharczyk, and Dr. John Perry in early 2000, Mental Toughness is recognized as one of the most significant predictors of performance, wellbeing, resilience, and positive behaviour across education, sport, business, and everyday life.
