Making the invisible visible

Parent Workshop on Mental Toughness

Speaker: Echo Wu
Format: In Person (Singapore)
Date: August, 2025

In August, we hosted an in‑person workshop designed for parents, with a focus on supporting teenagers through the ups and downs of growing up. Close to 40 participants came together to explore how mental toughness can shape the way both parents and young people respond to stress, change, and uncertainty.
The session created a safe space for parents to share openly about challenges such as:

  • Navigating emotional outbursts
  • Coping when teens withdraw or shut down
  • Balancing the question of “am I doing enough - or too much?”

We introduced the Mental Toughness framework, a well‑researched model supported by over 1,000 independent studies. It helps make the invisible visible giving parents practical insights into their children’s inner world, as well as their own responses.

One key insight was the recognition that mental toughness often dips during teenage years. This reframed adolescence not as a problem to be solved, but as a natural stage of identity formation, emotional growth, and navigating uncertainty. Parents discovered that their role is not to “fix” their teens, but to grow alongside them—listening, respecting, and supporting them as they develop resilience.

The workshop closed with three small but powerful shifts for parenting teens:

👂 Listen without rushing to fix
🌱 Appreciate effort, not just outcome

    🤝 Recognize your own emotions—it’s a two‑way street

This event reinforced the importance of self‑awareness in parents and highlighted practical ways to nurture resilience and positivity in young people. We look forward to continuing to create spaces where parents feel supported, informed, and empowered to raise confident, resilient adults.

What is Mental Toughness?

Mental Toughness is a personality trait that determines how effectively you perform under stress and pressure. Closely linked to character, resilience, grit, and perseverance. It is the foundation for thriving—not just surviving—in challenging environments.
